Marco de Baar appointed part-time professor at TU/e

9 July 2010
Dr. Marco de Baar has been appointed part-time professor at Eindhoven University of Technology. Starting 1 September, De Baar will investigate 'Control and Operation of Tokamaks' at the department of Mechanical Engineering. Tokamaks are the most popular reactor design for experiments with fusion energy.

After finishing his PhD research at Rijnhuizen in 1999, Marco was appointed at JET as a session leader, where he worked on the development of scenarios for high performance fusion plasmas. He was also involved as a lead scientist in experiments on the other main tokamaks in the world, such as TEXTOR, DIII-D and ASDEX Upgrade. From 2004 to 2007, he was Head of Operations in the European team that manages JET. From 2007 he was deputy project leader in the international consortium that develops the upper port launcher. He is program-leader for the MHD stabilization work package in ITER-NL.

Marco will continu to lead the Tokamak phyics group at Rijnhuizen. This group develops the science and engineering required for the control of Magnetohydrodynamics modes in fusion plasmas, disturbances in the plasma which strongly influence the reactor efficiency.
