The infrared user facility FELIX

For more: click on this figure!! The user facility comprises three different beamlines. Two beamlines, FEL1 and FEL2, provide continuously tunable radiation in the spectral range of 2500-40 cm-1 (4-250 mm, 1.2-75 THz) peak powers ranging up to 100 MW in (sub)picosecond pulses, and is being used for scientific research in (bio-)medicine, (bio-)chemistry and (bio-)physics. The third beamline, FELICE, is devoted to intra-cavity experiments on gas phase (bio-)molecules/ions, clusters and complexes. It provides continuously tunable radiation in the spectral range of 2000-250 cm-1 (5-40 mm) and the infrared intensity available to the experiment is a factor of up to a hundred increased compared to FELIX.

Research proposals are solicited for the periods:

  • 1 September 2010 - 28 February 2011 with deadline 1 June 2010
  • 1 March 2011 - 31 August 2011 with deadline 1 December 2011

Beam time will be allocated on the basis of a review of the submitted research proposals by a programma advisory committee.

Access is free of charge for all non-proprietary research. Researchers from EC and associated countries other than the Netherlands are eligible for support for travel and subsistence under the FP7 of the European Community, in the new Integrated Infrastructure Initiative (I3) "European Light Sources Activities (ELISA)". Please contact the facility manager if you are interested to benefit from the ELISA programme.
